The way plants
reproduce is a totally fascinating process. Out of the more than 300,000
different kinds of plants, more than half are seed plants. Seed plants make
their own seeds from which new plants grow.Plants reproduce to ensure the
survival their species .If plants do not reproduce , humans will not have
enough food supply. Animals that eat plants will also not survive. They will
eventually become extinct. Plants need nourishment, a way to excrete waste
material, ways to reproduce and create new plants, means of individual growth,
and ways to move and breathe, all of which are accomplished through seven life
processes. There are various ways of reproduction in plants.
Plants Reproduce

Flowering plants
or plants that produce flowers reproduce by producing seed.. The flowers will
develop into fruits that contain seeds. When these seeds are planted, they will
grow into seedlings or young plants. Apart from seeds, some flowering plants
can also reproduce from plants parts. Most plants make seeds in order to keep
their species going. Some plants put stickers on their seeds to make them stick
to animals and humans. The flowers will become fruits that contain seeds in them.
When these seeds are planted, they will grow into seedlings and then into young
plants.
For Example :
Papaya, Rambutan, Durian , Mango
Seed Disreal
Bryophyllum and Begonia reproduce from
their leaves.
A part of the stem of a parent plant is cut
and placed in the soil. The buds on the stem will grow into new plants. A cutting
can be from any part of the fully -grown plant and when it is placed in soil, it
may produce a new plant. When cuttings from trees and other woody stems are
attached plant, this known as grafting.
For example Rose, hibiscus, tapioca and
sugar cane reproduce this way.
Potato
, ginger, lily and yam reproduce from underground stems. These stems are
swollen as they store food for the buds to grow into new plants.
Suckers
are shoots that grow from the underground root or stem of a plant. Banana and
pineapple plants can reproduce from suckers.
Non –flowering plants such as ferns and
mosses reproduce through spores. Fungi such as mushrooms also reproduce through
spores.
Spores can be easily carried away by the wind. They will
grow into young plant.
